Who am I?

I laid in comatose for a month

Me, four years removed from the accident

My name is Zachary Gauvin. I was involved in a serious car accident and I had sustained a brain injury in April of 2006. For a month I laid in a coma in ICU. Doctors gave me a five percent chance of living and said if I did survive I would be a vegetable.

Well, I did survive and I am not a vegetable. I had to complete an immense amount of rehab though. I had to finish two months of inpatient rehab where I learned how to walk, talk, swallow, use my left arm/hand, and practice thinking strategies. This was followed by a year of outpatient rehab. After that, I did rehab on my own with the knowledge I had acquired through all of the past rehab that I had completed.

Today- I have graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a bachelors in Journalism and Political Science minor. I graduated after just four years. I now reside in South Florida living life to the fullest each and every day. I have had a pretty astonishing recovery that involved two months of inpatient rehab, then a year of outpatient rehab and a couple years of rehabbing on my own.

I believe that I can help people who have sustained such an injury; this is why I have created this blog.
